The role

We're looking for a senior backend engineer to join our Platform team. The Platform team is responsible for cross-cutting concerns that the other teams at Soundtrack build on top of, such as authorization and authentication, our federated GraphQL API and tooling to support good continuous deployment practices.

You'll be working on a wide range of projects, spanning from distributed systems to data pipelines, often in close collaboration with web, mobile and embedded developers as well as designers.

Our technology stack is primarily made up of Scala (ZIO & Scio/Dataflow) and Go running on Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform, but we believe your experience and curiosity allow you to pick up a lot as you go. 

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing services needed to realize our product roadmap.

• Improving, evolving and replacing existing services and APIs.

• Making sure our systems stay performant, reliable and cost efficient.

• Proactively identifying areas where we can help increase the velocity and reduce complexity for other teams at Soundtrack

• Helping the team grow as a whole by sharing knowledge and lifting each other up.

Mandatory requirements

• Strong experience in designing and building reliable and performant services APIs.

• A DevOps mindset – as a team we own our services from code to production. You build it, you run it.

• Strong experience with building systems in cloud environments (GCP, AWS or Azure).

• Knowledge and experience of different kinds of data storage & messaging solutions and their strengths and weaknesses.

• Comfortable with different CI and CD setups and the tradeoffs between.

• Experience with observability and monitoring of distributed systems using tools like distributed tracing.

• While we encourage remote applications, we want you to be in a similar time zone as us (GMT-1 to GMT+2).

Meriting experience (not required)

• General interest in music and/or music technology

• Previous experience of Scala and/or Go

• Experience with building authentication and authorization at scale

• Kubernetes and Docker

• GraphQL APIs and libraries (we use Caliban on the backend and Apollo for clients)

• Experience or interest in functional programming

• Automated testing
